Each month in the newsletter Roger Manning includes a summary of the month's weather. Much useful data on weather patterns comes from Stuart Reay at Smeafield Farm near Belford who has been keeping his own records for many years.
WEATHER MARCH 2008
March was in no way severe or exceptional and yet it was a month characterised by chilly, wet, and, most particularly, windy conditions. Smeafield Farm near Belford had a total of 59 mm. of rainfall. Jottings made during the month give some idea of the conditions experienced with “terrific winds” (1st), “an icy blast + a few snow-flurries” (3rd) and “the endless (+ chilly) NW winds continue” (5th). Later in the month “The Cheviot had a fresh capping of snow” (12th), “terrific northerly winds” were felt (21st) and by the 22nd “the wind now = in the NE + approx. 2 inches of snow”.
